 A Beginning

Welcome to the Erving's Past blog!

I have been learning about the history of our little town in Western Massachusetts for many years. This is a forum to share discoveries and to invite your responses. Posting the Erving-specific information here will draw the line between that and my research on my family or my other interests. Occasionally, I have other interests!

Some information has been shared on the Erving Historical Society Facebook page or the page for our Library in recent years. Archiving research here on a blog makes easier for others to connect through general internet searches.

Here are some of the topics that have caught my attention:

  • The family of James Moore and his role in the growth of Millers Falls
  • The Farley brothers whose Wendell mills spurred the growth of the village of Farley
  • Residential history of the old Schoolhouse on Northfield Road
  • The family of Simon Leavett Hobbs, an Erving minister in 1870
  • Holdings of our museum on State Road
  • The Erving family who gave their name to our town
Let's start with an introduction to the Ervings and the times that they lived in.

I hope you will chime in when you have thoughts about the topics I am researching.
